What You Need to Know About Bikini Waxing, Just in Time for Beach Season

What You Need to Know About Bikini Waxing, Just in Time for Beach SeasonWe know it's not a question you're likely to want to ask, but it's one that inevitably comes up, especially now that it's beach season: To wax or not to wax? Whether you choose to bare all or not, bikini waxing can cause fear in first-timers so with that in mind, we're here to help ease your concerns. The truth is, this is an excellent way to keep yourself feeling clean and prepared for beach season. Just one session will keep you smooth for approximately 2-4 weeks (depending on your growth cycle), making it much lower maintenance than shaving. Below is the beginner's guide to bikini waxing.

Who's a good candidate?

This is an excellent option for almost everyone! The only time you need to be cautious is if you take skin-thinning medications such as Accutane or if you have moles, in which case, tell your esthetician so she can address these concerns with you.

Will it hurt?

While your first wax won't be pain-free, each subsequent visit will become much less painful. If you're concerned about pain, you can purchase a numbing cream we love and swear by called Relax & Wax No Scream Cream at any of our 4 locations to apply 30 minutes before your appointment to ease your mind. Another option is to take two aspirin 45 minutes prior to your appointment.

Advice from the Experts - Bikini Hints:

Be clean. Bathing before your appointment removes excess oil. Trust us, you'll get better results if your skin is clean and oil free.

Relax. Your appointment will fly by if your muscles are relaxed, so try to take deep breaths to stay relaxed and calm throughout your appointment.

Don't shave! Wax needs something to grip onto. This means your hair must be at least ¼ inch long for your esthetician to remove it. So, don't shave for 2 weeks prior to your appointment to ensure success.

What do I do after a bikini wax?

For the first 48 hours after, it is essential to wear loose clothing and moisturize with unscented lotion to prevent irritation. Also, it's best to avoid the sun, sauna, and steam room to prevent redness. A few days after, we recommend you begin exfoliating to avoid ingrown hairs. After waxing, the dead upper layers of your skin can build up and trap hairs, preventing them from growing outwards and creating ugly bumps and ingrown hairs. Exfoliating in the shower is highly recommended, and Crystal Peel Microdermabrasion Soap is one of our most popular products, so make sure to pick one up following your bikini wax.
