How to Keep your complexion Fresh when traveling or relocating to a new city – part 1

How to Keep your complexion Fresh when traveling or relocating to a new city – part 1Are you planning to relocate to a new city or have you recently moved to the Tampa Bay area? Perhaps you travel frequently and have noticed your skin reacts to different environments. If you've recently traveled or moved you may begin to notice that your skin is suddenly more sensitive than before or worse yet it may have become itchy, dry, oily or acne-prone. Why, you wonder? Your body's not accustomed to the change in climate! The truth is water, humidity, food, pollution and stress can cause noticeable changes in your skin. Read on for my advice on how to stop these changes in their tracks.

H2O

I'm not referring to the water you're sipping, rather the water you're cleansing your face with. Cities have different qualities of water. If you've traveled to a place with hard water and your skin is used to soft water, watch out! Simply washing your face can cause changes in your skin. For example, your cleanser won't wash away as easily when you're in a climate with soft water, leaving residue on your skin. On the flip side, if your skin is used to soft water, climates with hard water may be harsh on your skin, especially if your skin is on the drier side. What's the solution? Invest in a refreshing, hydrating toner, such as Dermalogica's Multi-Active Toner, and spray it liberally on your face and neck after cleansing to fully dissolve any excess chemicals, salts and even chlorine lurking in the tap water. This will benefit your skin immensely, allowing the serums and moisturizers you apply next to fully penetrate your pores.

Climate Change

As you know, when seasons change your skin changes too. However, your skin adjusts to the transition because the seasons changes slowly. Traveling or relocating to a new city can be problematic because you are thrust into a new climate, and its unique humidity. This can cause massive havoc to your skin as it tries it's hardest to adapt. Dry climates cause your skin to search for moisture at its deepest levels, which can severely dehydrate anyone's skin. What does dehydration do to you skin? It traps oil and leads to breakouts. Alternately, if you're living in Tampa Bay and are traveling or moving to a dry climate, pack a heavier moisturizer, such as Dermalogica's Skin Smoothing Cream, to prevent dryness and acne. If you've recently moved to Tampa Bay or a traveling to a humid climate, apply a light moisturizer, one of our best-sellers is Dermalogica's Active Moist. Speaking of Tampa Bay, hot temperatures can affect your skin also! When traveling or living in hot climates be wary of redness caused by excess heat. Products designed to cool your skin, like Dermalogica's Ultra Calming Mist and Gentle Soothing Booster, can be a life-saver! They simultaneously soothe your skin while reducing future sensitivity. These hot days and nights can also cause your skin to produce more oil, leading to clogged pores and acne, so investing in an exfoliant, like Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant, is a wise choice to keep your skin fresh and bright.

While traveling or before or after moving to a new city, always remember to take care of your skin. Want to know how food, stress and pollution in different cities affects your skin? Watch for part 2 of this article next week!
