Microblading
Imagine waking up every morning with perfectly shaped, natural-looking brows that are already done. No pencil, no powder, no time spent trying to match both sides. That is what microblading delivers, and the results last one to two years.
The Microblading service at Pia Esthetics Day Spa in South Tampa is a semi-permanent brow enhancement that creates the look of real, individual brow hairs using precise, hair-like strokes placed just beneath the surface of the skin. The session runs about two hours and includes a color consultation, custom brow design, the procedure itself, and an aftercare kit to take home.
A non-refundable deposit is required to book, which applies toward your total service cost.
How Microblading Actually Works
Microblading is a form of cosmetic tattooing, but it is quite different from what most people picture when they hear that word. Here is what actually happens.
Your artist uses a small, handheld tool that holds a row of ultra-fine needles. Using precise, controlled movements, the artist creates tiny, hair-like cuts in the upper layer of the skin and deposits semi-permanent pigment into each stroke as it is made. Each stroke is drawn to look like a single natural brow hair, following the natural direction and curve of how your brows grow.
The result is brows that look real because each stroke actually mimics a real hair. Up close or in photos, the difference between microbladed strokes and natural brow hairs is essentially impossible to detect when done correctly.
This is different from older cosmetic brow tattoos, which used a machine and deposited ink more deeply, often resulting in that flat, filled-in appearance that faded to green or blue over time. Microblading uses specialized semi-permanent pigment placed at a shallower depth, which creates a softer, more natural result and fades gradually and cleanly over one to two years.
What Is Blade and Shade (Combo Brows)?
For clients with oilier skin, a variation called Blade and Shade or Combo Brows may be recommended. This technique combines the fine hair strokes of microblading with a soft powder effect in the body of the brow. The powder shading gives the brow a slightly more filled-in appearance that holds up better on skin types that tend to push pigment out of fine hair strokes over time.
Your artist will assess your skin type during the consultation and recommend the approach that will produce the best result for you.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your session runs approximately two hours and thirty minutes. Here is how it flows.
Color matching comes first. Your artist selects a pigment shade that complements your natural hair color and skin tone. The goal is for the color to look like it belongs on your face, not like a product sitting on top of it.
Custom brow design follows. Your artist maps and sketches the brow shape directly on your face before anything else happens. You see exactly how they will look and can request adjustments until the shape feels right. Nothing is permanent until you say so.
A numbing cream is applied to the brow area and given time to work. Most clients describe the procedure as a light scratching or pressure sensation rather than actual pain.
The microblading procedure is then performed, stroke by stroke, until the full brow shape is complete. An aftercare kit is provided before you leave.
The Healing Process
This part is important to understand before you book. Microblading results go through a predictable healing process that takes about four to six weeks.
In the first few days, the brows will appear darker and bolder than the final result. This is normal and expected. Around days four to five, the skin begins to flake and light scabbing occurs. It is critical not to pick at these flakes. Picking removes pigment from the strokes and leaves gaps in the final result.
As the skin heals and regenerates over the following weeks, the color softens and settles into its true shade. The full healed result is typically not visible until about a month after the procedure.
A touch-up appointment six to eight weeks after the initial session is available for a fee and is where final refinements are made once the skin has fully healed.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Microblading is appropriate for most adults, but certain conditions affect eligibility. Good candidates are over 18, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and not on blood thinners, immunosuppressant medications, or Accutane. Avoid caffeine and alcohol for 48 hours before your appointment. Retinol near the brows should be paused for three weeks before. Botox or fillers near the brow area should be at least four weeks past.
Your artist reviews your full health history at the consultation to confirm eligibility and discuss any adjustments to timing or approach.
The Investment
The Microblading service includes the consultation, custom design, the procedure, and your aftercare kit. A touch-up session at six to eight weeks is available separately and is recommended for the best long-term result. The deposit required to book is applied toward your total. Cancellations must be made at least 72 hours in advance to transfer the deposit to a rescheduled date.
