What Happens During a Brazilian Wax? Step by Step
A Brazilian wax involves applying warm wax to small sections of the bikini area, pressing a cloth or allowing the wax to harden, and then pulling it off quickly in the opposite direction of hair growth — removing hair from the root. The full process takes about 15 to 30 minutes, and your esthetician guides you through each step and position throughout the session.

Knowing the exact steps helps reduce anxiety, especially for first-timers. Here is what happens from start to finish at Pia Esthetics Day Spa:
- Private room setup: You enter a clean, private room. Your esthetician steps out while you remove your clothing from the waist down and lie on the treatment table. A towel or sheet is provided for coverage.
- Skin assessment: Your esthetician checks the hair length and skin condition. If the hair is too long, they will trim it to the optimal length.
- Cleansing: A pre-wax cleanser or powder is applied to remove oils and moisture, helping the wax grip the hair better.
- Wax application: Warm (not hot) wax is applied in small sections in the direction of hair growth. We use both hard wax (which hardens and is removed without a strip) and soft wax (removed with a cloth strip), depending on the area.
- Hair removal: The wax is pulled off swiftly against the direction of hair growth, removing hair from the root. Your esthetician works in small sections, moving from the front to the sides to the back.
- Positioning: You will be asked to shift positions during the session — legs apart, knees to chest, or rolling to one side — to give the esthetician access to all areas. Your esthetician will guide you calmly through each position.
- Tweezing: Any stray hairs that the wax missed are removed with tweezers for a clean finish.
- Soothing: A post-wax soothing gel or lotion is applied to calm the skin and reduce redness.
