What Types of Wax Does Pia Esthetics Day Spa Use?
At Pia Esthetics Day Spa, we use a combination of hard wax and soft wax, selecting the appropriate type based on the body area, your skin sensitivity, and hair coarseness. Both are professional-grade, hypoallergenic formulas designed for maximum hair removal with minimum skin irritation.
In Depth
Understanding the difference between wax types helps you know why your esthetician chooses one over the other:
Hard wax (stripless wax):
- Applied warm and allowed to harden on the skin, then removed by lifting the edge of the wax itself — no cloth strip needed
- Grips the hair, not the skin, making it gentler and ideal for sensitive areas
- Best for: Brazilian/bikini area, face (lip, chin, eyebrows), underarms
- Less redness and irritation compared to soft wax on delicate skin
- Can be applied over the same area twice without excessive irritation
Soft wax (strip wax):
- Applied in a thin layer and removed with a cloth or paper strip pressed onto the wax
- Provides a strong grip that removes hair efficiently from larger areas in fewer passes
- Best for: legs, arms, back, chest — larger, less sensitive body areas
- Should only be applied once per area to avoid over-irritating the skin
What we do NOT use: We do not use cold wax strips (the drug store kind), sugar wax, or low-quality formulations. Our professional products are specifically selected for consistent temperature control, optimal grip, and skin compatibility.
Our estheticians at Pia Esthetics Day Spa in South Tampa select the right wax for each area during every appointment, adjusting based on your individual skin and hair characteristics.
