How Long Will You Feel Pain After a Brazilian Wax?
Most discomfort after a Brazilian wax fades within a few hours. You may feel mild tenderness, sensitivity to touch, or a slight stinging sensation for 12 to 24 hours after the appointment. By the second day, the vast majority of clients feel completely back to normal. The first session produces the most post-wax soreness; subsequent sessions are progressively milder.
In Depth
Post-wax discomfort is your body's natural response to hair being pulled from the root. Here is a timeline of what to expect:
- Immediately after: The area may feel warm, stinging, and tender. This is the peak of discomfort and subsides within 30 minutes to two hours. Soothing gel applied by your esthetician helps significantly.
- First 6 hours: Mild tenderness and sensitivity. The area may feel slightly irritated, similar to a mild sunburn. Loose clothing prevents friction from adding to the discomfort.
- 6 to 24 hours: Tenderness decreases steadily. Most clients describe this as "awareness" of the area rather than actual pain.
- After 24 hours: Nearly all discomfort is gone. If redness persists, apply aloe vera gel.
How to minimize post-wax pain:
- Apply a cool (not cold) compress for 5 to 10 minutes when you get home
- Use fragrance-free aloe vera gel or a dedicated post-wax soothing lotion
- Wear loose cotton underwear and soft pants — no skinny jeans or synthetic fabrics
- Avoid hot showers, baths, saunas, and exercise for 24 hours
- Take ibuprofen if tenderness is bothersome (it reduces both pain and inflammation)
- Avoid sexual activity for 24 hours — friction on freshly waxed skin prolongs soreness
At Pia Esthetics Day Spa in Tampa, our estheticians apply professional soothing products immediately after every wax to minimize post-treatment discomfort.
