Is It OK for Kids and Teens to Get Waxed?
Yes, children and teenagers can get waxed, and it is increasingly common — especially for teens who are self-conscious about visible body hair. There is no specific minimum age for waxing, but we recommend waiting until hair growth is established enough to warrant removal, which typically begins around puberty (ages 10 to 14). Parental consent is required for minors.
In Depth
Body hair awareness often begins at the start of puberty, and waxing can be a safe, effective solution when shaving causes problems like cuts, razor burn, and ingrown hairs. Here is what parents and teens should know:
Most commonly requested services for young clients:
- Eyebrow shaping: The most popular service for teens. Clean, shaped eyebrows boost confidence significantly at an age when appearance matters.
- Upper lip: Visible upper lip hair can be a source of embarrassment. Waxing is quick, precise, and effective.
- Underarms and legs: Common requests once shaving becomes a hassle or causes irritation.
What parents should know:
- Waxing is no more painful for teens than for adults — in fact, teens who start with waxing instead of shaving often have an easier time because the hair is finer
- The same aftercare rules apply: moisturize, exfoliate gently, avoid tight clothing on waxed areas
- A parent or guardian should accompany minors and provide consent
- We recommend starting with smaller, less sensitive areas (eyebrows, upper lip) before moving to larger areas
When to wait: If a child has not yet begun puberty and has only fine vellus hair (peach fuzz), waxing is unnecessary. Once coarser terminal hair begins growing — typically during puberty — waxing becomes appropriate.
At Pia Esthetics Day Spa in Tampa, we welcome younger clients and make the experience as comfortable and positive as possible.
