What to Expect During Your First Brazilian Wax
Your first Brazilian wax will involve a brief consultation about your preferences, undressing from the waist down in a private room, and approximately 20 to 30 minutes of waxing where warm wax removes all bikini area hair from the root. It will be uncomfortable — but not as bad as you are imagining. Every single one of our regular clients was a first-timer once.
In Depth
First-time anxiety is completely normal, and the best cure is knowing exactly what will happen. Here is the full experience from start to finish:
Before the appointment:
- Let your hair grow to at least one-quarter inch (two to three weeks after shaving)
- Exfoliate the area gently the day before
- Take ibuprofen 30 minutes before if you are concerned about pain
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing and cotton underwear
During the appointment:
- Your esthetician will discuss your preferences (completely bare, landing strip, etc.)
- You undress privately, lie on the table, and are covered with a sheet or towel
- The esthetician works in small sections: apply wax, press strip or let harden, pull quickly
- You will be guided through different positions to access all areas
- Stray hairs are cleaned up with tweezers
- A soothing gel or lotion is applied at the end
The honest truth about pain: The first strip is the most surprising. After that, you know what to expect and it becomes more manageable. Most first-timers say it was "definitely not fun, but not nearly as bad as I expected." The bikini line and labia are the most sensitive areas; the back area is typically the least.
After your first wax: Follow aftercare instructions (loose clothes, no heat, no gym for 24 hours, start exfoliating after 48 hours). Your second appointment will be noticeably easier. By the third, you will be a pro.
First-timers are always welcome at Pia Esthetics Day Spa in South Tampa — we will guide you through every step.
