What Happens If You Decide Not to Continue Microblading After the First Session?
If you decide not to continue after your first microblading session, the pigment will naturally fade over 12 to 24 months until it is no longer visible. You are not required to get a touch-up — microblading is semi-permanent and will fade on its own without any removal procedure needed.
In Depth
The first microblading session deposits pigment into the upper dermis, and a touch-up session (typically scheduled 6 to 8 weeks later) is recommended to perfect the shape, fill in any gaps from uneven healing, and adjust the color. If you choose to skip the touch-up, here is what to expect:
Without a touch-up:
- The results will be less defined than a completed two-session treatment
- Some areas may have healed with less pigment retention, creating an uneven appearance
- The color may fade faster since it was only deposited once
- Over 12 to 24 months, the pigment will gradually fade until your brows return to their natural state
Reasons clients sometimes choose not to continue:
- They achieved enough enhancement from the first session alone
- They prefer a very subtle, barely-there effect
- They want to evaluate the faded result before committing to a touch-up
- Budget or scheduling constraints
Can you get a touch-up later if you change your mind? Yes. If you decide months later that you want to refresh your microblading, you can schedule a session. The artist will evaluate the remaining pigment and work with it. However, if significant time has passed, it may be treated as a new session rather than a simple touch-up.
