How to Prepare Before Your Microblading Appointment
The key preparation steps are: avoid blood-thinning substances (alcohol, caffeine, aspirin, fish oil) for 24 to 48 hours before, do not wax or tweeze your eyebrows for at least one week, and arrive with a clean face free of makeup. Proper preparation ensures better pigment retention, less bleeding, and a more comfortable experience.
In Depth
Microblading preparation is straightforward but important. Following these guidelines gives your artist the best possible canvas and helps you heal faster:
48 hours before:
- No alcohol: Alcohol thins the blood and increases bleeding during the procedure, which pushes pigment out and reduces retention
- No aspirin, ibuprofen, or fish oil supplements: All are blood thinners. Use acetaminophen (Tylenol) if you need pain relief
- Reduce caffeine: Limit coffee and energy drinks, as caffeine constricts blood vessels and increases sensitivity
One week before:
- Stop waxing, tweezing, or threading your brows: Your artist needs to see your natural brow shape, including stray hairs, to design the ideal shape
- No chemical peels, retinol, or AHAs on the forehead/brow area: These thin the skin and affect pigment retention
- No Botox: Wait at least two weeks after Botox before microblading (or schedule Botox two weeks after microblading has healed)
Day of:
- Arrive with a clean, makeup-free face
- If you have reference photos of brow shapes you like, bring them
- Eat a meal before your appointment — low blood sugar can increase sensitivity and make you lightheaded
- Plan for the appointment to take 2 to 3 hours total (consultation, numbing, procedure)
