What Disqualifies You from Getting a Brazilian or Bikini Wax?
You should not get a Brazilian or bikini wax if you are currently using Accutane (or have used it within the past 6 to 12 months), have an active skin infection in the area, have open wounds or severe sunburn, or have recently had a chemical peel or laser treatment on the area. These conditions make the skin too fragile for waxing and can lead to tearing, scarring, or infection.

Absolute contraindications (do NOT wax):
- Accutane (isotretinoin): Must wait 6 to 12 months after stopping. This medication severely thins the skin and makes it prone to tearing.
- Active skin infections: Herpes outbreak, bacterial infection, fungal infection, or open sores in the waxing area.
- Open wounds or cuts: Any broken skin in the area to be waxed.
- Recent chemical peel or laser treatment: Wait at least two weeks (or per your dermatologist's guidance).
- Severe sunburn: Waxing sunburned skin will cause extreme pain and potential blistering.
Relative contraindications (proceed with caution):
- Retinoid use (Differin, Retin-A, retinol serums): Stop for 5 to 14 days before waxing, depending on the product strength.
- Blood thinners: May cause increased bruising. Inform your esthetician.
- Diabetes: Skin may heal more slowly. Proceed with extra care and monitoring.
- Varicose veins: Waxing directly over varicose veins is not recommended.
- First-trimester pregnancy: Safe but potentially more uncomfortable. Your esthetician will adjust technique.
